If I were going to install a chip today, I'd go with the plain DP-Tuner multi-position chip and have at least 4 tunes with a tune-switcher that DP-Tuner sells.ġ. I had a separate exhaust brake, which is required in hills or mountains. I also had 80-economy but it didn't seem to offer any advantages over 80-tow, so I usually just left it in 80-tow all the time. 80-tow was perfect for towing my 8,000-pound 5er on the flats or in the hills and mountains. The 7.3 may sound like a diesel but she's a sweet engine and reliable as well.Back when I still had my 7.3L, I had DP-Tuner tunes in an Edge programmer. Hell just driving around town I get between 21 to 21.5mpg. So my feelings are the 7.3 which has a longer stroke gives it that low end torque that doesn't need the turbo to produce. And as well all know if you're making boost it needs more fuel. Now my driving style helps as well as I hardly ever see the boost gauge move and that's because with the tune this 7.3 has some incredible low end torque and throttle response. I know some of you are going to call bull shit on it but I had a friend along with me on this trip and right when we got into the Dallas area just before the I20 intersection I pulled over to fill up and he too couldn't believe how well this truck did. Traveling from Houston to Dallas on I45 which for the local folks know is very flat the whole way, had the wind in my tale I was able to get 28.4 mpg at 75 to 77mph. I put a gearvendors overdrive right behind the transverse case and with the 4:10s in the rear at 80mph my 7.3 is just under 2k rpms. I have a low mileage 70k miles 02 F350 4x4 DRW. While that's a very good hwy mileage it can be better.
